Salgado DR Mission Newsletter

Dear friends, mission partners, brothers and sisters in Christ,

Another year has come and gone. By God’s grace, His unmerited favor, we are here. As we reflect on all the Lord has done and allowed us to be a part of since we have come here to serve and proclaim, we are left in awe of Him. The people’s lives we have had the opportunity to speak into, the many places we have had the opportunity proclaim Christ and His Gospel, the many Bible studies and lessons I have had the privilege to teach to young believers and see them grow, the divine appointments with people that the Lord has used to bring about so many things like the land and church building in Boruco.

God could have used anyone He wanted to, to accomplish anything He so chose in the fulfilling of His plans here in the DR, yet in His grace He chose us for some of those things. I still do not understand His amazing, constant, outpouring of grace on our lives and ministry, to God alone be the glory now and forever!

The picture attached to this newsletter contains the message and mission of the new church we are ministering to. This week I launched the mission statement for the church and began preaching a series on “Knowing Christ more, and making Him known” which focuses on discipleship and evangelism. Why is this important? Because when we understand who Christ says He is according to His Word, (not who we think He is), the answer demands that we respond in passionate worship, a desire to glorify Him in service, and a disciplined obedience. Someone who understands the cross should desire a closer walk with the Lord, and for others to come to know Him as well.  Real New Testament biblical Christianity. When we examine Jesus’ teachings, He leaves us no room for an idle, passive, or half-hearted approach to following Him. So our goal is to have every aspect of what we do to be Christ centered, and convey the importance of this to others in the church. The preaching, the teaching, the worship, evangelism, family life, everything.

As of now the church is weak and only has about 10-15 in attendance apart from our family. We will be praying fervently and ask you to join us in doing so. The building is in a large community and we will be out sharing the Gospel and inviting people to come and visit the church. Please pray as we are out in the community..

…that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,                           -Ephesians 6:19 ESV

We have another urgent request. Many may not know the humble beginnings of this mission. After several short term trips here with a group of churches, we came here after months of prayer to help a local pastor in the work of taking the Gospel to the Dominican people and  teaching them to follow Christ. We felt so strongly about the direction the Lord was leading us through the many confirmations and series of events the Lord brought into our lives, that we packed up our famlily of five and moved here with very minimal financial support (about 1/5 of the average missionary budget). God has blessed in many ways and has been our Faithful Provider, we have never missed a meal. Sometimes through the seemingly miraculous timing of things, just the amount we needed at just the right time would show up. The Lord has taught us time and time again to live by faith and what was needed has been provided. We know that God has brought this community, and small group of believers into our lives with a purpose.

Unfortunately, in the last few months we have seen a significant decline in giving. We rely God’s provision through the sacrificial giving of the saints  back home. Some people pledge for a time and their time comes to an end. Some give when they can, without any committment of how long they may do so,  and others give a one time gift. We are forever thankful for each and every person who has given towards this ministry. But if we do not begin to see an increase in our monthly giving, we could be in serious financial trouble very soon. We need mission partners. We are asking you to please consider becoming a mission partner to help us stay here and continue our work. Please pray about being a part of what God is doing in the Dominican Republic. Please share this newsletters with your friends and church members. We will be praying that God will bring the people we need, with the support we need into our lives soon.

My family and I are thankful, because it is truly a privilege and an honor to serve God in this way. If you are already giving to this ministry, we are very thankful for your prayers and support, and for your obedience and love for the Lord. If you are not a mission partner, would you prayerfully consider giving to this ministry?

Those who give to missions play just as an important role as those on the mission field, and we depend on the faithful giving of the saints back home.

If the Lord so lays on your heart to give back to Him by supporting this ministry, you can conveniently give online by clicking on the “Donate” button on the home page of this site, or you can click on “Contact us” and we will respond with for more information on where to send your tax deductible gift.  Thank you and God bless you.

In service to our Lord and King,

The Salgado family
