Salgado D.R. Mission Newsletter 17

Dear mission partners, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. There is so much happening it is difficult to know where to begin.  This is why this newsletter has reached you a bit late this month. Please forgive us for the tardiness of this letter.

As we enter this new year, we are bringing it in full steam ahead.  This month we will be receiving a container from the United States with  the materials to build a metal church building for one of the church plants here. We are very happy about this and thankful to God for this blessing because it is for the church in Boruco , which is where God seems to moving the most out of the four towns we are ministering in. The container also has a lot of baseball equipment that we can use for the new baseball ministry we have begun here in Esperanza and soon, Lord willing, in Boruco as well. All of the materials for the building and the sports equipment was donated by our good friends at Honoring the Father Ministries. In God’s providence, He crossed our paths with Pastor Johnny Johnson last Summer, and since then he has committed to get this building project done. Him and his team have gone to many poor countries to build churches and begin sports programs as a means to share the Gospel with children and youth. Please be in prayer for us, the team coming to help build the building, all of the locals helping,  and also the difficult  process of receiving the container. We as of yet do not have it in our possession, but it is here in the country. Whenever it comes to shipping things internationally it can get a little stressful.  Some of you may have seen the pictures at the port we have posted on facebook recently.

As always we need you prayers. We love doing all the great things that come with these teams willing to help the people here in so many different ways. But, with an already very hectic schedule running around between four different towns, these busy projects come with a price. Unfortunately, a demanding schedule can take away precious time  from more important things like prayer, study of God’s Word, and family. Maintaining a balance is always a struggle.

We also ask that you be in prayer for our family specifically in a couple of areas: We have tried to keep everyone updated as much as we can. We update our facebook page almost every day as a way of trying to keep people in the loop as to what the Lord has been doing in our family and ministry. For several days now Christen has been very sick. We were out in the country visiting some friends (who are poor and live pretty rough) for a few days where there are lots of mosquitoes and other biting insects and things are not very clean there. We have been there many times in the past with no problems.  We were not sure what it is yet but she has had fever, aches and pains all over her body, a rash, and was dehydrated. We took her to a local “hospital” where they ran a few tests , but they did not come up with much. They did give her some much needed fluids that did help her. She was feeling better, but then she began to feel bad again so we took her back for another blood test.  They drew more blood and the test came back negative for typhoid fever, which is good news. But, they said she does have dengue fever, a mosquito borne illness.  Her white blood cells and platelets have dropped significantly in two days. She did not have to stay in the hospital, but it is best if she stays away from people until her counts go up. She needs lots of fluids and rest, but Lord willing she will be alright. Our oldest Daughter was also  bitten by a dog but she is ok.  We are thankful for the many prayers offered up for Christen and were overwhelmed at the amount of people asking for updates on her health and praying. We have to take Christen back for more blood work in a couple of days to see if she is improving. Please continue to pray for her.

We also ask that you pray for a trip we as a family have to make. Because of our children’ s schooling situation we are obligated to make an annual trip back to the States for the testing required for them to pass to the next grade. If you are able to give, we are asking for your help. We are trying to raise money to cover some of our family’s traveling expenses. As of now our family is short of affording this necessary trip. A gift of any amount would be a huge blessing and very much appreciated. Please take the time to consider helping us to meet this urgent need. When we are in the States we would love to come and share with you and your church about what God is doing through this mission. To schedule a speaking engagement you can email us at our email address located at the bottom of this letter with all of our other contact information.

Our family and ministry will always be in desperate need of your prayers. We would greatly appreciate it if you could add us to your church’s prayer list as well. We are completely powerless to do anything unless God moves in the hearts and lives of these people. We have faith that He will, through sharing the Gospel, the preaching of His Word, and showing the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. We know that God is with us every step of the way.

Be sure to follow us on this journey @ Salgado DR Mission on Facebook. Friend us, “like” and share our posts and updates with your friends and family to show your support of what God is doing in the Dominican Republic. We regularly post updates and pictures, also be on the lookout for some videos coming soon along with our monthly newsletter via email. And of course, everything costs money, even ministry, and especially in missions when working with the less fortunate.  My family and I are excited, because it is truly a privilege and an honor to serve God in this way. If you are already giving to this ministry, we are very thankful for your prayers and support, and for your obedience and love for the Lord, for you are truly storing up for yourselves treasures in heaven (Matt. 6:19-21).  If you are not a mission partner, we ask that you prayerfully consider giving to this ministry. Those who give to missions play just as an important role as those on the mission field, and we depend on your faithful giving.

If the Lord so lays on your heart to give back to Him by supporting this ministry, you can send your tax deductible gift to  Romeo Baptist Church 20545 SW 5th Pl. Dunnellon Fl, 34431. Please be sure to write Salgado DR Mission in the memo. Thank you and God bless you.

In service to our Lord and King,

The Salgado family

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.   Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:4-7
