Salgado DR Mission Newsletter

Dear friends, mission partners, brothers and sisters in Christ,

Those of you who follow us on facebook may be up to date on the transition we are in as a ministry. We have been moving our family and belongings to another rental home we were able to find rather quickly, praise the Lord. We are now in the city of Santiago. While we adjust to the change of a new home and new people, we are looking forward to this new chapter of ministry and the new people God is bringing into our lives.

We still have been doing ministry in Esperanza with our friend Juan using baseball to share God’s Word with the kids and youth . The kids completed their first 10 week Bible study and many of them are now participating on a new gospel centered study called Buenas Nuevas Para Ti (Good News For You). Please continue to pray for them as most of the kids in the baseball program are unchurched and come from broken homes. We hope to do a similar work with the kids in Santiago as well.

Now that we are settling in to our new home, we will be back to the war of ministry in the streets very soon. And yes it is a war, although invisible, it’s a very real war.  Though there is sure to be opposition, I am looking forward to hitting a new area with the Gospel and discipleing those who the Lord brings into our lives. Santiago is a dark place and we have been warned to be very careful here,  but I pray to see lives changed and God glorified as we proclaim that glorious light which is the Gospel that can penetrate any darkness. Very soon I find out more about a struggling church who’s previous pastor has fallen and they are in desperate need of some help. If this is where the Lord would have us for a time, then pray that the Lord will give us discernment of the whole situation and the wisdom to make the best decisions.

We still have baby Yeison with us. We have spoken with many people about the adoption process here and even went to the capital to speak with the lawyers of the organization that handles all the adoptions in this country. Unfortunately, the law states that because we have a relationship with the family members of the child, we are prohibited from adopting him. We have grown to love him and were a bit saddened by the news. We have explained everything to the family, but since they are unable to care for him, we have agreed to continue to care for him and help meet the child’s needs as long as we are able to.  His grandmother recently died of cancer. We take him regularly to spend time with his mother.

Would you please pray for us? Aside from the new ministry opportunities, I was invited to preach at a Haitian church also this month. Please pray that the Lord would show me the text I am to preach and that He would speak through me into their lives. Pray for our children as they have gotten a little behind in school with the move, and with two of them using a new curriculum it has been a little difficult. Pray for me to always lead my wife and family in a way that honors the Lord, and that Christen would have the patience and grace needed to manage the home when I am out. We are utterly dependent on God for His grace and for His provision. This move has proven to be quite costly and somewhat stressful overall and we are always in need of prayer and grace and would greatly appreciate if you could add us to your church’s prayer list as well.

It is truly a privilege and honor to serve the Lord in this way. But of course, everything costs money in the ministry, especially in missions. If you are already giving to to this ministry, we are extremely thankful for your prayers, support, and love and obedience to the Lord. If you are not a mission partner we ask that you please prayerfully consider giving to this ministry and help “hold the rope”. The truth is,

Those who pray for and give to missions, play a role just as important as those on the mission field. We depend on the faithful giving of the saints.
