Salgado DR Mission Newsletter

Dear mission partners, friends, brothers and sisters in Christ,

The Lord has been very gracious and His mercies never cease to amaze us. Here are some of the many things happening as of late. We have been working hard at the new church both physically and spiritually. When we first got there, the property looked abandoned and forgotten. Because of this, and some problems that particular place has had in the past, we have worked hard in transforming the outside appearance of the building and property. We are doing as much as possible with the little bit we have. But the change so far is  significant and people are beginning to notice. More importantly, we have also been out in the community sharing and inviting. We feel it is important to have a  presence in the community and for people to know who we are and that we are willing and ready to serve. The last time we went out, Christen and I had the opportunity to pray with two women who had recently underwent surgery and were bed ridden. The more people we meet, the more oppotunities will arise to share the Gospel and invite them to join us for a service.

We have a new couple at the church who have been a tremendous blessing.  Their names are Robles and Yoannia and they definitely have servant’s hearts. The community we are working in is very large and it certainly helps to have others alongside of us to help reach people with the Gospel. The last two weeks we have seen a few new faces. Please be in prayer for us and those we will be sharing with.

The Lord has opened another door in the community. There is a group of women taking part in a program that teaches illiterate adults how to read. The leader who facsilitates the class approached me one Sunday after service. They did not have a place to meet and wanted to use the church building. We saw this as another opportunity to reach people and share with them. They are now meeting in the church building every Sunday afternoon for a few hours, but I begin by sharing a passage of Scripture and short reflection on it, prayer, and invite them to church. Please pray for this meeting. As that group grows, our opportunities ministering and sharing the Gospel grow as well.

This has been a very interesting but challenging month. We planned on getting our vehicle equipped with a propane system because of the expensive gas price here. Turns out that our engine was well on it’s way out and needed to be replaced! We were not expecting that financial blow. Praise God, that one church gave unexpectedly and it covered half of the cost. We have a good mechanic who is a Christian. who has been working with us and is patient. We now have our vehicle back and it runs good now and we almost have paid off what we owe. God is good!

We are excited about everything God seems to be doing around and through us, and we ask you to continue to pray for our family and ministry. Truly being a missionary is not easy. There are many needs that go unspoken. We must wear many hats simultaneously and at times it can get overwhelming. Those of you that follow us on facebook will be seeing a fundraiser we have begun called Missionary Kids Education Fundraiser. We are beginning to feel that our children aren’t getting the level of education they deserve here at home. At least not through us. But we have come across another option in schooling that may be a wonderful opportunity for our children and it would meet their individual needs. Unfortunately, it is expensive and we work off of a tiny budget. We are asking for your help. We have started this fundraiser in hope of meeting the cost to cover all three of our children for the next school year. Please pray about helping us meet this need. We feel strongly that we are exactly where God wants us right now as a ministry, but as parents we also want to try to provide the best education possible for our children. Please pray, support, and share to help us raise money for these missionary kid’s education.

Thank you for the prayers and support. May the Lord richly bless you that you may bless others for His glory! Pray.

In service to our Lord and King,

The Salgado family

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. -Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV
